Victor Lovely was rushed to the ICU at the V. Luna hospital and placed under the direct custody of Marcos chief of staff General Fabian Ver. While recuperating from near fatal wounds, the Lovely brothers (Victor, Romeo and Baltazar) were held incommunicado. Shortly afterwards, they were charged with subversion, illegal possession of explosives and damage to property. But the bombings continued.
On September 12, 1980, bombs once again exploded in Metro Manila including one which resulted in the death of an American lady who was shopping at Rustan's Supermarket in Makati and others which caused injuries to a number of persons. The targets were Marcos crony-owned establishments. Meanwhile, Victor’s youngest brother Romeo was presented to the media during the President’s anniversary television radio press conference. During the live nationwide broadcast, Romeo implicated Senator Salonga in the bombings. Still, the bombings continued.
On the night of October 4, 1980, more bombs were reported to have exploded at three big hotels in Metro Manila, namely: the Philippine Plaza, Century Park Sheraton and Manila Peninsula. The bombs injured nine people. A few days later, on the night of October 4, , Marcos had just finished delivering his speech before the International Conference of the American Society of Travel Agents at the Philippine International Convention Center when a small bomb exploded near one of the men’s bathrooms. One person was in the bathroom when the bomb went off. It was Nonoy Zuniga. He was preparing to entertain the American travel agents during one of the conference intermissions. The explosion badly mangled Zuniga’s left leg that it had to be amputated. Thus the iconic cane while crooning the 80’s hit “Never Ever Say Goodbye”. Salonga was arrested a few days after in Makati Medical Center where he was confined for respiratory problems. He was kept in detention for weeks without charges until his release for humanitarian reasons. The person who snuck in the explosive was a 28-year old woman, Doris Nuval. Ironically, Nuval’s father was a friend and advisor to Marcos. She was eventually arrested. Nuval and Lovely gave a face to the radical non-communist anti-Marcos group called the April 6 Liberation Movement. Its name comes from the historic April 6, 1978 noise barrage that occurred on the eve of the first parliamentary election under Marcos’ New Society. For four hours in 1978, the metropolis was filled with the noise of banging pots, tooting horns and shouts of “Laban!Laban!”, giving Marcos a preview of the future People Power. The April 6 Liberation Movement was actually a metamorphosis of an earlier radical group, the “Light-A-Fire Movement” whose leaders where arrested prior to the rash of bombings. Led by detained businessman Ed Olaguer, the “Light-A-Fire Movement” followed the tactics of an “Arafat/IRA” style insurrection of bombings and small arms actions in the urban areas against the government . The “terrorist” nature of the group initially scared off political sympathizers and had very little support so they had to choose strategic targets with the cheapest form of terrorism: arson. Their weapon of choice: Katol. The procedure was incredibly simple: light a shortened mosquito coil and leave it near a highly combustible area; the coil was extremely predictable time-wise, untraceable and you could get one at any corner sari-sari store. The group set off fires at the Sulo Hotel, Rustan’s and the floating casino. The government took notice and the fires made headlines. But as the group planned for a more “incendiary” route using C4 explosives (the type allegedly used in the Glorietta blast) , they were arrested while meeting at a Quezon City home. The members were exposed, among them AIM professor Gaston Ortigas and a 60-year old grandmother Ester Jimenez (mother of the Paredes boys Jim and Ducky/they were all convicted and sentenced to death by electrocution in 1984). But the exiled Filipino oppositionists also took notice of the movement’s early success. They were emboldened and decided to continue the radical tactics. The chief promoter was Lopez family friend Steve Psinakis. But after the arrest of Victor Burns Lovely, the military cracked down on its alleged supporters. The movement eventually petered out. Years later, after the EDSA revolution, many of its supporters finally came out in the open. The most surprising revelation was that the radical movement was supported by Jesuits Toti Olageur (brother of Ed) and the respected historian Fr. Horacio dela Costa. Business tycoon Alfredo Yuchengco also came out in the open as one of the very few businessmen who actively financed the group. GMA’s National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales was also a participant, himself actually carrying out some of the bombings. Today Doris Nuval is project director for the Knowledge Channel; Gaston Ortigas a peace advocate; Ed Olaguer is fighting his demons; Steve Psinakis is now known as the father of Manila chic socialite Geni Psinakis, proprietor of trendy Zuzuni resto in Boracay and Nonoy Zuniga is a doctor still walking with a cane.

Bedsores, more properly known as pressure ulcers or decubitus ulcers, are lesions caused by many factors such as: unrelieved pressure; friction; humidity; shearing forces; temperature; age; continence and medication; to any part of the body, especially portions over bony or cartilaginous areas such as sacrum, elbows, knees, ankles etc. Although easily prevented and completely treatable if found early, bedsores are often fatal – even under the auspices of medical care – and are one of the leading iatrogenic causes of death reported in developed countries, second only to adverse drug reactions. Prior to the 1950s, treatment was ineffective until Doreen Norton showed that the primary cure and treatment was to remove the pressure by turning the patient every two hours.[1]

The definitions of the four pressure ulcer stages are revised periodically by the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) in the United States. Briefly, however, they are as follows:

Stage I is the most superficial, indicated by non blanchable redness that does not subside after pressure is relieved. This stage is visually similar to reactive hyperemia seen in skin after prolonged application of pressure. Stage I pressure ulcers can be distinguished from reactive hyperemia in two ways: a) reactive hyperemia resolves itself within 3/4 of the time pressure was applied, and b) reactive hyperemia blanches when pressure is applied, whereas a Stage I pressure ulcer does not. The skin may be hotter or cooler than normal, have an odd texture, or perhaps be painful to the patient. Although easy to identify on a light-skinned patient, ulcers on darker-skinned individuals may show up as shades of purple or blue in comparison to lighter skin tones.
Stage II is damage to the epidermis extending into, but no deeper than, the dermis. In this stage, the ulcer may be referred to as a blister or abrasion.
Stage III involves the full thickness of the skin and may extend into the subcutaneous tissue layer. This layer has a relatively poor blood supply and can be difficult to heal. At this stage, there may be undermining damage that makes the wound much larger than it may seem on the surface.
Stage IV pressure ulcerStage IV is the deepest, extending into the muscle, tendon or even bone.
Unstageable pressure ulcers are covered with dead cells, or eschar and wound exudate, so the depth cannot be determined.
Suspected Deep tissue injury: Purple or maroon localized area of discolored intact skin or blood-filled blister due to damage of underlying soft tissue from pressure and/or shear. The area may be preceded by tissue that is painful, firm, mushy, boggy, warmer or cooler as compared to adjacent tissue.

Further description: Deep tissue injury may be difficult to detect in individuals with dark skin tones. Evolution may include a thin blister over a dark wound bed. The wound may further evolve and become covered by thin eschar. Evolution may be rapid exposing additional layers of tissue even with optimal treatment.

With higher stages, healing time is prolonged. While about 75% of Stage II ulcers heal within eight weeks, only 62% of Stage IV pressure ulcers ever heal, and only 52% heal within one year.[2] It is important to note that pressure ulcers do not regress in stage as they heal. A pressure ulcer that is becoming shallower with healing is described in terms of its original deepest depth (e.g., healing Stage II pressure ulcer).

Bedsores are accepted to be caused by three different tissue forces:

Pressure, or the compression of tissues. In most cases, this compression is caused by the force of bone against a surface, as when a patient remains in a single decubitus position for a lengthy period. After an extended amount of time with decreased tissue perfusion, ischemia occurs and can lead to tissue necrosis if left untreated in an immunocompromised patient.
Shear force, or a force created when the skin of a patient stays in one place as the deep fascia and skeletal muscle slide down with gravity. This can also cause the pinching off of blood vessels which may lead to ischemia and tissue necrosis.
Friction, or a force resisting the shearing of skin. This may cause excess shedding through layers of epidermis.
Aggravating the situation may be other conditions such as excess moisture from incontinence, perspiration or exudate. Over time, this excess moisture may cause the bonds between epithelial cells to weaken thus resulting in the maceration of the epidermis. Other factors in the development of bedsores include age, nutrition, vascular disease, diabetes mellitus, and smoking, amongst others.

There are currently two major theories about the development of pressure ulcers. The first and most accepted is the deep tissue injury theory which claims that the ulcers begin at the deepest level, around the bone, and move outward until they reach the epidermis. The second, less popular theory is the top-to-bottom model which says that skin first begins to deteriorate at the surface and then proceeds inward.[3]

Pressure ulcers may be caused by inadequate blood supply and resulting reperfusion injury when blood re-enters tissue. A simple example of a mild pressure sore may be experienced by healthy individuals while sitting in the same position for extended periods of time: the dull ache experienced is indicative of impeded blood flow to affected areas. Within hours, this shortage of blood supply, called ischemia, may lead to tissue damage and cell death. The sore will initially start as a red, painful area, which eventually turns purple. Left untreated, the skin may break open and become infected. Moist skin is more sensitive to tissue ischemia and necrosis and is also more likely to get infected.

[edit] Epidemiology
Within acute care, the incidence of bedsores is 0.4% to 38%; within long-term care, 2.2% to 23.9%; and in home care, 0% to 17%. There is the same wide variation in prevalence: 10% to 18% in acute care, 2.3% to 28% in long-term care, and 0% to 29% in home care. There is a much higher rate of bedsores in intensive care units because of immunocompromised individuals, with 8% to 40% of ICU patients developing bedsores.[4]

The risk of developing bedsores can be determined by using the Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Ulcer Risk. This scale is divided into six risk categories:

sensory perception
moisture
activity
mobility
nutrition
friction and shear
The best possible interpretation is a score of 23 whilst the worst is a 6. If the total score is below 11, the patient is at risk for developing bedsores.[5]

[edit] Treatment
The most important thing to keep in mind about the treatment of bedsores is that the most optimal outcomes find their roots in a multidisciplinary approach; by using a team of specialists, there is a better chance that all bases will be covered in treatment.

There are seven major contributors to healing.

[edit] Debridement
The removal of necrotic tissue is an absolute must in the treatment of pressure sores. Because dead tissue is an ideal area for bacterial growth, it has the ability to greatly compromise wound healing. There are at least seven ways to excise necrotic tissue.[3]

Autolytic debridement is the use of moist dressings to promote autolysis with the body's own enzymes. It is a slow process, but mostly painless.
Biological debridement, or maggot debridement therapy, is the use of medical maggots to feed on necrotic tissue and therefore clean the wound of excess bacteria. Although this fell out of favour for many years, in January 2004, the FDA approved maggots as a live medical device.[6]
Chemical debridement, or enzymatic debridement, is the use of prescribed enzymes that promote the removal of necrotic tissue.
Mechanical debridement is the use of outside force to remove dead tissue. A quite painful method, this involves the packing of a wound with wet dressings that are allowed to dry and then are removed. This is also unpopular because it has the ability to remove healthy tissue in addition to dead tissue. Lastly, with Stage IV ulcers, there is the chance that overdrying of the dressings can lead to bone fractures and ligament snaps.
Sharp debridement is the removal of necrotic tissue with a scalpel or similar instrument.
Surgical debridement is the most popular method, as it allows a surgeon to quickly remove dead tissue with little pain to the patient.
Ultrasound-assisted wound therapy is the use of ultrasound waves to separate necrotic and healthy tissue.
[edit] Infection control
Infection has one of the greatest effects on the healing of a wound. Purulent discharge provides a breeding ground for excess bacteria, a problem especially in the immunocompromised patient. Symptoms of systemic infection include fever, pain, erythema, oedema, and warmth of the area, not to mention purulent discharge. Additionally, infected wounds may have a gangrenous smell, be discoloured, and may eventually exude even more pus.

In order to eliminate this bioburden, it is imperative to apply antiseptics and antimicrobials at once. It is not recommended to use hydrogen peroxide for this task as it is difficult to balance the toxicity of the wound with this. New dressings have been developed that have cadexomer iodine and silver in them, and they are used to treat bad infections. Duoderm can be used on smaller wounds to both provide comfort and protect them from outside air and infections.

It is not recommended to use systemic antibiotics to treat infection of a bedsore, as it can lead to bacterial resistance.

[edit] Nutritional support
Upon admission, the patient should have a consultation with a dietitian to determine the best diet to support healing, as a malnourished person does not have the ability to synthesize enough protein to repair tissue. The dietitian should conduct a nutritional assessment that includes a battery of questions and a physical examination. If malnourishment is suspected, lab tests should be run to check serum albumin and lymphocyte counts. Additionally, a bioelectrical impedance analysis should be considered.

If the patient is found to be at risk for malnutrition, it is imperative to begin nutritional intervention with dietary supplements and nutrients including, but not limited to, arginine, glutamine, vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin E, vitamin C, magnesium, manganese, selenium and zinc. It is very important that intake of these vitamins and minerals be overseen by a physician, as many of them can be detrimental in incorrect dosages.

[edit] Proper care
The most important care for a patient with bedsores is the relief of pressure. Once a bedsore is found, pressure should immediately be lifted from the area and the patient turned at least every two hours to avoid aggravating the wound. Nursing homes and hospitals usually set programs to avoid the development of bedsores in bedridden patients such as using a standing frame to reduce pressure and ensuring dry sheets by using catheters or impermeable dressings. For individuals with paralysis, pressure shifting on a regular basis and using a cushion featuring pressure relief components can help prevent pressure wounds.

Pressure-distributive mattresses are used to reduce high values of pressure on prominent or bony areas of the body.[7] Antidecubitus mattresses and cushions can contain multiple air chambers that are alternately pumped.[8] However, methods to evaluate the efficacy of these products have only been developed in recent years.[9]

[edit] Educating the caregiver
In the case that the patient will be returning to home care, it is very important to educate the family about how to treat their loved one's pressure ulcers. The cross-specialisation wound team should train the caregiver in the proper way to turn the patient, how to properly dress the wound, how to properly nourish the patient, and how to deal with crisis, among other things.

As this is a very difficult undertaking, the caregiver may feel overburdened and depressed, so it may be best to bring in a psychological consult.

[edit] Wound intervention
Once the patient has reached the point that intervention is possible, there are many different options. For patients with Stages I and II ulcers, the wound care team should use guidelines established by the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA) for the treatment of these low-grade sores.

For those with Stage III or IV ulcers, most interventions will likely include surgery such as a tissue flap, skin graft or other closure methods. A more recent intervention is Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, which is the application of topical negative pressure to the wound. This technique, developed by scientists at Wake Forest University, uses foam placed into the wound cavity which is then covered in a film which creates an airtight seal. Once this seal is established, the technician is able to remove exudate and other infectious materials in addition to aiding the body produce granulation tissue, the best bed for the creation of new skin.

There are, unfortunately, contraindications to the use of negative pressure therapy. Most deal with the unprepared patient, one who has not gone through the previous steps toward recovery, but there are also wound characteristics that bar a patient from participating: a wound with inadequate circulation, a raw debridled wound, a wound with necrotised tissue and eschar, and a fibrotic wound.

After Negative Pressure Wound Therapy, the patient should be reevaluated every two weeks to determine future therapy.

[edit] Complications
Pressure sores can trigger other ailments, cause patients considerable suffering, and be expensive to treat.[10] Some complications include autonomic dysreflexia, bladder distension, osteomyelitis, pyarthroses, sepsis, amyloidosis, anemia, urethral fistula, gangrene and very rarely malignant transformation. Sores often recur because patients do not follow recommended treatment or develop seromas, hematomas, infections, or dehiscence. Paralytic patients are the most likely people to have pressure sores recur. In some cases, complications from pressure sores can be life-threatening. The most common causes of fatality stem from renal failure and amyloidosis

June 20, 2009: The great debate is around which phone is better, the iPhone 3G S or the Blackberry Storm/Bold? Everyone that owns a iPhone seems to rave about it and everyone that owns a blackberry seems to call out the flaws with the iPhone. So I ask again, which is the better phone?

I've personally used blackberry's for years and recently moved to an iPhone. In my opinion the blackberry was the best phone in 2007 hands down, but the iPhone is the phone of 2014. I feel like I'm living in the future everytime I used it. What do you think? See the reviews below.

The iPhone 3G is undoubtedly a world icon as far as mobile phones go these days. The 3G comes in only two colors; black or white. Although the 3G appears small, most of the commonly used features are accessible.

The BlackBerry Bold is larger in size than the 8800, and is the largest in size since the 8700. The Bold may be a little much in one hand for some people, but the keyboard accounts for much of the space, and most likely, two hands will be used for the keyboard.

The iPhone 3G is slimmer, and easier to hold in one hand than the Bold, but obviously doesn’t have the larger keyboard.

The screen of the BlackBerry Bold is excellent. Graphics, content, videos, it all looks great on the Bold thanks to the dense ppi ratio.

What can I expect to pay?

The BlackBerry Bold is somewhere in the range of $199-$299 with a 2 year contract, and the iPhone is $199 at 8GB and $299 at 16GB, so the pricing seems to be fairly equal between the two.

Which phone is better overall?

Really neither phone is that much better than the other. The Bold is the best BlackBerry up until now, and it is great for business use. The iPhone is a consumer device, and most of the original problems have already been addressed. It all comes down to what you like and what you really want in a phone. Each phone is great in its own right, so the battle really comes down to you, the consumer.

Background: We analyzed the embolectomy results and complications of patients who were operated on after a diagnosis of late acute arterial occlusion of lower extremities.

Methods: A total of 122 patients operated on in our clinic between 2004 and 2009 for late acute arterial occlusion were included in the study. Late arterial occlusion was defined as occlusion occuring 72 hours after initial manifestation of the patient complaints related to the affected lower extremity.

Results: Average age of the 122 patients (71 male, 51 female) was 54.2 ± 16.8 years. In this cohort, 64.75% of patients had cardiac pathologies, while 28.68% had extracardiac causes; 1.64% patients had cathetherization, 0.81% patient had malignancy, and 2.46% patients had a history of trauma. In 1.64% of the cases, no reason for thromboembolysis could be found. Thirty-one patients (25.40%) had additional surgical operations, 14 (11.47%) had fasciotomy, and 9 (7.37%) had amputation. Re-embolectomy was performed on 37 patients (30.32%) who had ongoing ischemia after an operation. Additional surgical operations were performed on 31 patients (25.40%) with ongoing ischemia. In 14 of these cases (11.47%), patients were treated with fasciotomy due to development of compartment syndrome. Amputation was performed on a total of 9 patients. Early in the postoperative phase, mortality was observed in 11 patients (9.01%).

Conclusion: We believe that late embolectomies of acute late leg ischemia increases blood flow in the extremity and reduces the number of amputations required.

Saint Philomena is venerated as a virgin martyr saint of the Roman Catholic Church, said to have been a young Greek princess martyred in the 4th century. Nothing else was known about her, but an inscription found at the tomb was taken to indicate that her name was (in the Latin of the inscription) Filumena; corresponding to the English name Philomena.

1 1/2 kilo Pork Leh (chopped)
1 head garlic (minced)
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
1 tablespoon rice wine
1 tablespoon patis
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 cup pork or beef stock
2 tablespoons cornstarch in 4 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon Dona Elena Pure Olive Oil
1 Tablespoon garlic
4 pieces lettuce leaves (sliced)
6 pieces Shiitake mushrooms (whole)
2 Star Anise (optional)

Procedure

1. In a pot, boil pork leg until tender and keep stock.

2. Baste pork leg with soy sauce and brown in oil.

3. In another casserole, boil water and put in pork legs to take out oil.

4. Take out pork legs and discard water, take bones out and discard.

5. In a baking dish, arrange pork.

6. In a bowl, mix oyster sauce, rice wine, fish sauce, cornstarch diluted in water and sesame oil and soy sauce.

7. Pour in mixture to pork leg.

8. Steam pork leg for an hour or until cooked.

9. Saute lettuce and shiitake mushrooms in olive oil, garlic, star anise (optional) and oyster sauce until tender then make a bed for the Pata Tim

[edit] Basic biographical information
Jan Velflín (Welflin, Wölflin) z Pomuku was born in the small market town of Pomuk in Bohemia, later renamed Nepomuk, which belonged to the nearby Cistercian abbey. He was born in the decade 1340-1349, and he first studied at the University of Prague, then furthered his studies in canon law at the University of Padua from 1383 to 1387. In 1393 he was made the vicar-general of Jan of Jenštejn (1348-1400), who was the Archbishop of Prague from 1378 to 1396. In the same year, on March 20, he was tortured and thrown into the river Vltava from Charles Bridge in Prague at the behest of Wenceslaus, King of the Romans and King of Bohemia (as Wenceslaus IV).

At issue was the appointment of a new abbot for the rich and powerful Benedictine Abbey of Kladruby; its abbot was a territorial magnate whose resources would be crucial to Wenceslaus in his struggles with nobles. Wenceslaus at the same time was backing the Avignon papacy, whereas the Archbishop of Prague followed its rival, the pope at Rome. Contrary to the wishes of Wenceslaus, John confirmed the archbishop's candidate for Abbot of Kladruby, and was drowned on the emperor's orders, March 20, 1393.

This account is based on four contemporary documents. The first is the accusation of the king, presented to Pope Boniface IX on April 23, 1393, by Archbishop John of Jenštejn, who went immediately to Rome together with the new abbot of Kladruby [2].

A few years later Abbott Ladolf of Sagan lists him in the catalog of Sagan abbots, completed in 1398 [3], as well as in the treatise "De longævo schismate", lib. VII, c. xix [4].

A further document is the "Chronik des Deutschordens", a chronicle of the Teutonic Order compiled by John of Posilge, who died in 1405 [5].

In the above accusation John of Jenštejn already calls John of Nepomuk, “saint martyr”. In the biography of the bishop, written by his chaplain, John of Nepomuk is described as "gloriosum Christi martyrem miraculisque coruscum." Therefore the vicar put to death for defending the laws and the autonomy of the Catholic Church was revered as a saint right after his death.

Much additional biographical information is due to Bohemian annalists, who wrote 60 or more years after the events. Although they may have taken advantage of sources not available today, their contribution is considered legendary by many historians, particularly by the Protestant ones.

In his chronicle Chronica regum Romanorum, completed in 1459, Thomas Ebendorfer (d. 1464) states that King Wenceslaus had drowned the confessor of his wife, indicated as Magister Jan, because he had stated that only the one who rules properly deserves the name of king and had refused to betray the seal of Confession. This is the first source to mention this refusal as the true motivation of the condemnation of John of Nepomuk.
In his Instructions for the King, completed in 1471, Paul Zidek provides further details [6]. King Venceslaus was afraid that his wife had a lover. As she was used to confessing to Magister Jan, he ordered him to tell the name of the lover, but to no avail. Therefore the king ordered John to be drowned. Note that in these chronicles neither the date of the events, nor the name of the queen is mentioned.
In 1483 John of Krumlov, dean of St. Vitus cathedral, states that the Saint died in 1383 (exactly one century before, maybe due to a copying error)[7][7]. As the first wife of Venceslaus died in 1386, this change of date also causes uncertainty about the name of the queen[8].
The mistake of John of Krumlov crept into the Annales Bohemorum[9] of Wenceslaus Hajek von Liboczan (cs:Václav Hájek z Libočan, dead in 1553), the Bohemian Livy. He suggested that two Jan di Nepomuks may have existed and have been killed by King Wenceslaus. The first one is the queen's confessor, who died in 1383; the other the vicar of the archbishop, who disagreed with the king on the election of the abbot of Kladruby and was drowned in 1393. As Hajek's annals enjoyed a wide success, they influenced all subsequent historians for two centuries, up to the Latin edition, critically annotated by the translator, which considerably reduced Hajek's credit as a reliable historian.

Further and less reliable details about John of Nepomuk are provided by the annalists of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Boleslaus Balbinus, S.J., in his Vita b. Joannis Nepomuceni martyris [10] gives the most rich account.

Although the theory of Hajek von Liboczan has no credit today, some historians believe the refusal of betraying the seal of confession might have been the secret reason why Wenceslaus took vengeance on John of Nepomuk as soon as a credible excuse provided the opportunity.

Monument on Cathedral Island in Wrocław, PolandJohn of Nepomuk is seen by Catholics as a martyr to the cause of defending the Seal of the Confessional, by romantic nationalists as a Czech martyr to imperial interference, and by most historians as a victim of a late version of the inveterate investiture controversy between secular rulers and the Catholic hierarchy.

The connection of John of Nepomuk with the inviolability of the confessional is part of the transformation of an historical figure into a legend, which can be traced through successive stages. The archbishop, who hastened to Rome soon after the crime, in his charge against Wenceslaus, called the victim a martyr; in the vita written a few years later miracles are already recorded, by which the drowned man was discovered. About the middle of the fifteenth century the statement appears for the first time that the refusal to violate the seal of confession was the cause of John's death. Two decades later (1471), the dean of Prague, Paul Zidek, makes John the queen's confessor. The unscrupulous chronicler Wenceslaus Hajek speaks in 1541 (probably owing to carelessness in the use of his sources) of two Johns of Nepomuk being drowned; the first as confessor, the second for his confirmation of the abbot.

The place on the bridge parapet where John of Nepomuk was thrown into the Vltava.The legend is especially indebted for its growth to the Jesuit historiographer Boleslaus Balbinus the "Bohemian Pliny,", whose Vita beati Joannis Nepomuceni martyris was published in Prague, 1670. Although the Prague metropolitan chapter did not accept the biography dedicated to it, "as being frequently destitute of historical foundation and erroneous, a bungling work of mythological rhetoric", Balbinus stuck to it. In 1683 the Charles Bridge was adorned with a statue of the saint, which has had numerous successors; in 1708 the first church was dedicated to him at Hradec Králové; a more famous Pilgrimage Church of Saint John of Nepomuk was founded in 1719.

Meanwhile, in spite of the objection of the Jesuits, the process was inaugurated which ended with his canonization. On May 31, 1721, he was beatified, and on March 19, 1729, he was canonized under Pope Benedict XIII. The acts of the process, comprising 500 pages, distinguish two Johns of Nepomuk and sanction the cult of the one who was drowned in 1383 as a martyr of the sacrament of penance.

According to some Protestant sources the figure of St. John Nepomuk is a legend due to Jesuits and its historical kernel is really Jan Hus, who was metamorphosed from a Bohemian Reformer into a Roman Catholic saint: the Nepomuk story would be based on Wenceslaus Hajek's blending of the Jan who was drowned in 1393 and the Jan who was burned in 1415. The resemblances are certainly striking, extending to the manner of celebrating their commemorations. But when the Jesuits came to Prague, the Nepomuk veneration had long been widespread; and the idea of canonization originated in opposition not to the Hussites, but to Protestantism, as a weapon of the Counter-Reformation. In the image of the saint which gradually arose, the religious history of Bohemia is reflected.

The figure of Saint John of Nepomuk is often encountered in Central and Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. He is usually portrayed with a halo of five stars, commemorating the stars that hovered over the Vltava River on the night of his murder. Other attributes useful to identify his pictures are: a priestly dress, the palm of martyrs, carrying a cross, an angel indicating silence by a finger over the lips. His tomb, a Baroque monument cast in silver and silver-gilt that was designed by Fischer von Erlach, stands in St Vitus Cathedral, Prague. A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk has often been erected on bridges in many countries, such as on the Ponte Milvio in Rome.

In the 1950s the epical construction of Cubi point rivals the construction of panama Canal in terms of earth moving projects

The need for a naval air station was realized during the Korean War. Admiral Arthur W. Radford, Chief of Naval Operations conceived of the construction of a naval air station at Cubi Point, which was then a rugged and jungle covered finger of land 3 miles (4.8 km) from Subic Naval Base. He pictured the air station as a vital link in the defense of the Southwest Pacific.

In spite of the magnitude of the job and the tremendous difficulties the construction involved, the project was approved by The Pentagon. Civilian contractors were initially tapped to fulfill the project but after taking seeing the forbidding Zambales Mountains and the maze of jungle at Cubi Point, they claimed it could not be done. The Navy's Seabees were then given the project and in 1951, the Seabees began the first phase of the project. The first Seabees to arrive were MCB-3 on October 2, 1951; the second, MCB-5, arrived on November 5, 1951.

The first problem encountered was the transfer of an entire town. The town of Banicain stood on the site of the proposed airfield and so had to be moved to the community of Olongapo where it became New Banicain. The former Banicain now lies under 45 feet (14 m) of earth.

The next problem involved the moving of mountains and the building of a 10,000 feet (3,000 m) long airstrip that stretches out into Subic Bay, along the waterfront and out into the sea. It was one of the largest earthmoving projects in the world, equivalent to the construction of the Panama Canal.

In all, it took five years and an estimated 20-million man-hours to build this Navy base. At Cubi Point Seabees cut a mountain in half to make way for a nearly two-mile long runway. They blasted coral to fill a section of Subic Bay, filled swampland, moved trees as much as 150 feet (46 m) tall and six to eight feet in diameter, and relocated a native fishing village.

The $100 million facility was commissioned on July 25, 1956 and comprised an air station and an adjacent pier that was capable of docking the Navy's largest carriers.

On December 21, 1972, Naval Air Station Cubi Point honored Radford by changing the name of its airfield to Arthur W. Radford Field. Radford had the unusual honor of being able to make the dedication speech himself. The plaque reads:

"Dedicated in honor of Admiral Arthur W. Radford, whose foresight in founding U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point has enabled the United States Navy to provide invaluable support to the Seventh Fleet and to carry out its obligations under the Philippines-United States Mutual Defense Treaty."

An aerial view of Cubi PointEventually, NAS Cubi Point served as the primary maintenance, repair and supply center for the 400 carrier-based aircraft of the Seventh Fleet's carrier force. During the Vietnam War, its jet engine shop turned out 2 jet engines a day to keep pace with demand.

NAS Cubi Point and Naval Base Subic Bay were also at the front lines during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield.

In June 1991, when Mt. Pinatubo, which was just 20 miles (32 km) from Subic Bay, erupted, NAS Cubi Point was blanketed in ash one-foot thick. After the evacuation of all dependents from the facility, an intense clean-up was begun to return the station to normal operations. Within two weeks, NAS Cubi Point was back in limited operation. Soon most building had electricity and water service restored. By mid-July, service had been restored to most family housing units.

By September, most dependents were back to Subic Bay and Cubi Point, but it was also in September that the Senate of the Philippines voted to have the United States withdraw from all of its facilities in the Philippines.

I was informed by my sources at DILG that a suspension order is being readied and only need is a signature of 2 officials (name with held). the charge is about relocation of squatters at leveriza street.
At that time my father delegated to me some powers, and one one the is the survival of his administraton, like this classical case of extortsion in the highest level. I aquired a document rom my source and I saw in black and white the charge sheet and suspension order.

upon further investigation, i learned that the malacangang official with initial AA is in conivance with a DILG official who is also a husband to a very vocal senator. He is also the Chairman of the Partido Demokratiko Sosyalista ng Pilipinas (PDSP – Democratic Socialist Party of the Philippines) since 1973.

Advocate of People Empowerment
In 1972-1974, wanting to advance the rights of workers, Sec. Gonzales introduced moderate labor unionism within the Bataan Export Processing Zone, under the Federation of Free Workers.

In 1990, he initiated, along with the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), and the Lakas Manggagawa Labor Center, the creation of the Workers Fund. He was part of the formation of the Peasant Development Fund (PDF), as well as the formation of the Kapulungan ng mga Magsasaka at Mangingisda sa Pilipinas (KAMMPIL – Federation of Farmers and Fisher Folks in the Philippines).

Sec. Gonzales has been initiating the organization of farmers, agricultural workers, fisher folks, urban poor, and indigenous people in Northern and Southern Mindanao, Western Visayas, Bicol, Southern Tagalog, and Central Luzon.

Promoter of Democracy and Peace
It was during the era when freedom was severely oppressed that he proved his mettle, as a public servant and a freedom fighter.

He was detained in 1978 by President Ferdinand Marcos for being one of the leaders of Ninoy Aquino’s LABAN in Metro Manila during the Interim Batasang Pambansa (Philippine Parliament) election.

In 1990, he led the creation of the September 8 Movement, a coalition consisting of Catholic and Protestant Church elements and other sectors of society.

In 1992, he assisted in founding the SAMBAYANAN, a national coalition of people’s organizations and cooperatives. He was also co-founder of the Lakas ng EDSA (Lakas EDSA) coalition which launched the candidacy of former President Fidel Ramos.

He also formed, in 1994, the Konsyensyang Pilipino (KP – Filipino Conscience), meant to advance and uphold political and social moral order.

Secretary Gonzales has at least 20 years of experience as a peace adviser and negotiator for the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) – Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Peace Process, the GRP – More Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the GRP – National Democratic Front (NDF) Peace Talks. He also served as a panel member of the GRP-MNLF Peace Process under President Corazon C. Aquino.
